Stair Models & Studio B

These stairs were designed for Studio B form my cross sections. This was my first attempt at a studio design for Patricia Piccinini and Ricky Swallow.
The words I wanted to express in these are Isolated(Overground - Based on Piccinini's sculpture) and Youth (underground - Based on one of Swallow's watercolours).
I wanted a light weight staircase connecting the individual studios, to hold the stairs up by the roof. The staircase leading to the ground floor needs to be monumental; practical and sculptural at the same time. The image below is Inspired by Carlo Scarpia - but it seems a little bit too crowded. I want to find a way where i can compromise between form and function for that particular stair

Stair Models & Studio A

These stairs were designed for Studio A form my cross sections. It is my second attempt at a studio design for Patricia Piccinini and Ricky Swallow. The words I wanted to express in these are Youth (Overground - based on a watercolour) and Isolated (underground - Based on Piccinini's sculpture). I wanted the staircases to be substantially different, resulting in a heavy monumental staircase for the exterior and a light spiral reaching up from the underground studio.

Even though the spiral might not be so practical to transport Piccinini's works, it still expressed youth. Everyone loves a good spiral staircase to run up and down :P and there will probably be some industrial elevator somewhere to make things easier for her lol.

This Studio is all about the hard clean cut geometry, kida like lego blocks right out of a childs toy room.

Stair Cross Sections

This Staircase caught my eye during the lecture. It got the largest reaction from us all because it was unexpected and very unique and expressive, just weaving i 's way up the wall. It also appears to almost want to collapse when u walk on it making a scary stair to climb.

Further Development of Model

These are just two images displaying my attempt to distort and add to the model. I'm considering the idea of the continuous staircase on the roof extending further out to the ground plane, almost spider like.

Just a random thought of how I might add to the model.

Week 1 Task: 1st Attempt at Model

I chose my final cross section for the modeling task.
My underground is based on Ricky Swallows' watercolour and the word Childish, and
my overground is based on Patricia Piccinini's sculpture "Not Quite Animal" and the word Isolated.

I kinda got the hang of Sketchup as it involves a really practical and basic kind of approach to modeling which I love!! lol
I wanted to express the word isolated in my model for Patricia's studio, but also incorporate the fact that she is a versatile artist and makes use of many different mediums. That's how I decided on 4 different studios as individual spaces for each form of art - sculpture, sketches, digital media.

For my underground studio, I Simply decided on 2 or 3 large spaces considering Ricky's main style involved sculptures, and still leave a large space for his watercolours which faces a large blank wall with a coloured and distorted roof ( kinda acting as a form of inspiration or an aid to his thinking method).

Baalback

This shot was taken in 2007 during our Christmas trips to Lebanon. The teple is situated in Baakbeck to the norther part of Lebanon near the Easter border. The site known as the Heliopolis was one of the largest in the Roman Empire and now contains the best preserved Roman Temples in the world !!! AWESOME place to visit.

This is a shot we took randomly of one of the open altars. The detail in the craftsmanship is beautiful and the temples themselves are MASSIVE!!

Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família

The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, or the Sagrada Família is one of my favorite buildings, firstly because it's Cathedral, and secondly because it mixes modern and gothic architecure.

The Gothic Cathedral is a perfect fusion of architecture and engineering, but Gaudi moved it to the next level. Changing the strict geometric shapes to almost random naturally inspired forms. The carvings in the stone achieve a new level of fluidity and perfection, and the traditional parabolic arches and vaults were replaced by inverted catenary curves. It always amazes me and will never become dated due to it's genuine originality.

Armenian Rhapsody

This is one of my favorite pieces of music!!!! Armenian Rhapsody for two pianos by Arutunian and Babajanian.

I first heard it when I was in year 11, and agreed to help prepare it for my cousin's HSC performance. We Loved it so much, we decided chose it again for my HSC a year later. My HSC performance was recorded and nominated for Encore which was crazy!!! Our performance of this piece peaked during my HSC exam (thankfully !!!!), but I never managed to get a copy of the Board of Studies.

This recording is of our first performance when i was in year 11. It is no where near our best performance, but it is still the best recording I have.

This piece is divided into two movements. The first is slow, romantic and very emotional; constantly fluctuating between different emotions, and musical textures (eg. a solo lament instantly building to a semi climax and thickening 3 fold within a few bars). This contrasts with the second playful and energetic movement, with high levels of syncopation and counter melodies.
